Sweet and Sour Sauce – Easy Style
This is a quick and simple sweet and sour sauce I ripped off from a Mindful Chef recipe, having made my own tweaks. This is a sticky sauce, rather than the fluorescent pineapple-dotted sauce you find bits of chicken floating in in Chinese takeaway.

  • 1 small red chilli
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1 tsp cornflour
  • 2 tsp soy or tamiri sauce
  • 2 tsp honey
  • 2 tbsp tomato puree
  1. In a bowl, mix together the cornflour with 2 tbsp cold water.
  2. Add the tamari, tomato puree, honey and apple cider vinegar, mix well, and allow to stand.
  3. Finely chop the garlic and red chilli.
  4. Stir fry main component - meat or vegetable - in a wok, with the garlic and red chilli.
  5. When almost cooked, add the sauce and simmer for 3 minutes.
