I had the morning off today, so I thought I would go out in the sun and dig over a couple of my veg troughs, ready for spring planting. The veg troughs being waist height (well, hip height on me) it is fairly kind to the back, using a hand fork and trowel.
I’d allowed my carrot crop to sit in the ground this winter, harvesting as I needed; as they keep better in the soil than in the fridge. However, I had done what I thought was the final harvest a few weeks back, in case we had a freeze.
However, it seems I didn’t dig deep enough – I have just found a couple of pounds of carrots deep down in the trough.
Not being a “natural” gardener, I am always being surprised by things, and this is a constant delight to me.
So now I guess I need to come up with some ways of using this bounty up.
Correction. After washing, and chucking out any manky ones, it was 4.5lbs of carrots
